Stratfords
is rooted in the rich history and heritage of the Eastern Cape.
Al and Iris Stratford, both from 1820 settler families
– Al of British, Iris of German descent, grew up in close
association with the Xhosa people, speaking the language and having
a deep understanding of the indigenous culture. This intermingling
of diverse roots, history and heritage is expressed in the architecture,
and interior design.
Designed
by Al Stratford, Stratfords is a radical yet carefully
considered essay in architecture, a statement embracing nostalgia
for yesterday blending seamlessly with his vision of hope for the
future, in the rich cultural diversity of South Africa.
